Presentation 2

Horse friendly training
Interaction with the acquired behaviour

"You don't understand why your horse is acting like this?"

Improve living conditions.

"A living being changes its behaviour only to improve its living conditions",

is the key message of this workshop.
Immediately after birth, horses and humans develop new behaviours,
which increase their chances of survival and improve their living conditions.

From the moment of birth.

These acquired behaviours are grafted on to the instinctive behaviours already present at birth.
Most displayed behaviours are the result of learned behaviour.
Leading a horse, giving a hoof to the farrier, but also being ridden, going for an outdoor ride, jumping obstacles and riding dressage,....

There is a learning process.

The learning process of horse and human is partly similar, but there are also major differences.
This workshop explains these similarities and differences and the laws by which they are governed.
Change my behaviour but not my identity.

Rewarding and punishing.

Punishment never teaches anything, only diminishes behaviours.
Mental and physical torture is not necessary to achieve performance.
Sharp bits, stinging spurs and abusive words can be avoided.

Powerful reinforcements.

Motivated horses and people are the result of empowering reinforcements.

In this workshop, learning processes are thoroughly explored:

Pleasant and empowering versus positive • Stimulus response • Conditioned response
Learning processes • Conditioning • Passive conditioning • Cooperative conditioning
Unpleasant reinforcements • Pleasant reinforcements • Shaping • Motivational behaviour training
Self analysis

"If you pleasantly reinforce desired behaviours, you will go a long way"
